No doubt you’ll be aware of the national focus on the issue of mould, condensation and dampness following the tragic death of Awaab Ishak, the two-year-old from Oldham who died as a result of prolonged exposure to mould in his home.

Quite rightly, there is additional scrutiny on landlords, including social landlords like us, to ensure that the homes we provide to you, our customers, are fit and up to standard.

As with all registered social landlords in Wales, we have recently responded to the Welsh Government’s Housing Minister who asked for assurance on the priority we are giving to this matter. We encourage you to read our full response.

Whilst this is not an issue unique to Bridgend, or Valleys to Coast as a landlord, we are determined to do everything we can to address it and support you in every way possible.

Ensuring our homes are safe and happy has always been our top priority, but we also recognise that like others, there is more we can do.

So, to demonstrate our commitment we have set up a task and finish group that will lead on this issue, starting by looking at every repair request we have in our system to identify links between repair needs and potential for mould and dampness, and we will prioritise new repair requests that may be linked to a problem with mould.

  • If you are experiencing issues with mould, dampness or condensation, please report it to us immediately via our online repair request form or call us on 0300 123 2100.

We will also continue to increase awareness of the issue and offer you advice about what you should do if you have a problem in your home: Please take a look at our website for handy information and guidance about how you can help us manage the levels of moisture in your home and keep an eye out in our customer newsletters and social media feeds for more advice and updates.
