#WholeHearted – it’s what we do

We put our colleagues and customers at the very heart of everything we do. We care, we nurture, and we grow together; we have fun, celebrate each other’s successes, and value the diversity of our thoughts and opinions. We live by our values – we value people, we think differently, and we have the courage to see things through. In short, what we do, we do it wholeheartedly.

Want to be part of our friendly team?

If you bring your heart, skills, experience, energy and enthusiasm to Valleys to Coast, here’s what you’ll get in return…

A friendly and supportive working environment

Join a great team of friendly colleagues with a range of job roles and experiences, from customer-facing positions such as our trades and housing partners, to supporting roles including finance, administration and communications.

Our main office is based in Tremains in Bridgend town centre, and our busy depot is in Brynmenyn. We also have community-based extra care and sheltered schemes across the borough.

When you come to work, you can expect to get down to business and have fun! We’ve got a vibrant environment with plenty of space to catch up with colleagues over a cuppa or bookable meeting rooms where you can link up with people online through large digital screens or have a great in-person session. We’ve also got cross-organisation online chat groups so you can stay connected with colleagues wherever you’re working.

Most of all, we’ve got your back. Because we’re all human and sometimes need a little support, our experienced People partners are always on hand to help.

Smarter working

We understand that flexibility is important to our colleagues and whilst effective service delivery will always come first we’ll enable you to take advantage of hybrid working, allowing you to work in our main office or hub locations, at home or any other place that will allow you to carry out your work appropriately.

Sometimes that will require you to be present at our office, depot or community locations where we can come together and work together, and with that in mind we would expect to see you in person at least two days a week.

We’ll provide you with IT kit that you can use on the move, and trust you to make the right choices based on our business needs.

Our operating hours are 8am to 6pm, and we ask that you work your core hours and be available to support our customers and your colleagues within these times.

Growth and development

We appreciate you bringing your skills to Valleys to Coast, and we’ll help you continue to learn and grow during your time with us. We’ll link you up with colleagues to mentor and support you, we’ll give you the opportunity to shadow others so you can learn about roles across the organisation, and we’ll help you find relevant training courses to support your continued professional development. We’ll also pay a relevant professional membership fee if it’s what you need to do your job. Most of all, if we have opportunities in more senior roles and your skills, enthusiasm and experience makes you the perfect candidate, we’ll take pleasure in supporting you to step up and advance your career with us.

Everyone adds value

We celebrate diversity in our workplace and recognise we are all unique and we encourage colleagues to be able to bring themselves to work.

We have a four year plan to encourage equality, diversity and inclusivity and encourage colleague feedback to help us achieve the goals in our plan.

Initiatives we have already put in place are:

  • Deeds not Words campaign
  • White Ribbon Pledge
  • Rooney Rules for leadership roles
  • Welsh Language events
  • Menopause Cafe

Generous annual leave

We know how important it is for you to take a break from work to rest and re-energise. At Valleys to Coast you’ll receive a minimum of 25 days annual leave each year with an extra day for every year you are with us up to a maximum of 30 days, plus bank holidays (pro rata). You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase additional annual leave once you have completed your probationary period as part of a salary sacrifice scheme.

Free healthcare

We’re one big family at Valleys to Coast, and we want to care for you and yours too. That’s why you’ll automatically benefit from a health care cash plan to help you pay for essential health bills, as well as providing you with 24-hour access to GP advice, counselling and more.

Generous pension contribution

We recognise it’s important to save money for later on in life, which is why we offer a generous monthly contribution to the Social Housing Pension Scheme, which you’ll automatically access soon after you join us. We’ll contribute 2% more than you every month and you can choose how much you wish to pay in – for example:

You pay We pay
4% 6%
5% 7%
6% 8% (Maximum)

Recognition and discounts

When you live up to our values, we’ll make sure you’re recognised for it. As well as annual colleague recognition events, we’ll celebrate your successes and congratulate your perseverance – because we know a thank you goes a long way. You may even find yourself mentioned on our Wonder Wall, a special online space where colleagues connect to highlight each other’s achievements and personal celebrations. Here you’ll also access thousands of retail discounts to help you save on everyday essentials and luxuries, free health and wellbeing resources, company blogs and so much more.

Time to contribute to Bridgend’s communities

As an organisation that is at the heart of Bridgend, we want our presence to be felt for all the right reasons. So, every year we’ll give you a paid day to spend volunteering in the community for a cause that is close to your heart. That could be a single day, or taken by the hour and spread out over the year.

We also fundraise for our Charity of Year, voted for annually by our colleagues – an opportunity to have fun together whilst contributing to a local worthy cause. This year, we are supporting Bridgend-based palliative care unit Y Bwthyn Newydd.

A vibrant Sports & Social Club

We’re a friendly bunch and if you’re up for it you can join our sports and social club to take advantage of after-work and weekend social gatherings! There’s plenty going on, including shopping trips and sporting activities if you fancy it, or just join our payday draw for a chance to win a cash prize to top up your pay packet!

Our Charity of the Year… Y Bwthyn Newydd (Link opens in new window)

Each year we select a cause to be our Charity of the Year, which will benefit from colleague fundraising for at least twelve months. This year, colleagues voted for our fundraising efforts to go towards Y Bwthyn Newydd, a specialist palliative care service in the grounds of the Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. Y Bwthyn Newydd provides people with cancer, their relatives and carers, with a warm, friendly and supportive environment.
