Last week, we welcomed nearly 40 people to our community event in Maesteg, focused on how our latest housing developments will support the town to thrive. With over 200 new homes being delivered and more than £100,000 being reinvested into local community benefits, this is a real step forward for Maesteg’s residents and local stakeholders.

Attendees had the chance to see first-hand the impact of three exciting new developments:
- Ewenny Road
Our largest ever development: 193 homes, including a mix of affordable homes for social rent, low-cost home ownership properties, open market sale homes, and affordable rent homes. - Maesteg Campus
13 one-bedroom homes for social rent. - Old Drill Hall
18 one- to two-bedroom homes for social rent.
Visitors asked questions about accessibility, modern construction methods, and how people will be able to live in these homes. Five people even registered their interest in purchasing homes at Ewenny Road.

Being out in the heart of Maesteg allowed our teams to have meaningful interactions with residents, covering mutual exchanges, transfers, housing registrations, and adaptations. Llanw colleagues also booked repairs there and then, following up on outstanding issues, and signposting to other services. These conversations provide invaluable insight into local needs and help ensure that residents are supported in the ways that matter most to them.

We also enjoyed learning more about Maesteg’s rich history. Did you know?
- Kylie Minogue’s mother, Carol Ann Jones, was born in Maesteg, and her family once owned and operated the Post Office on Bridgend Road.
- The Welsh national anthem, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau, was first performed in early 1856 at the vestry of Tabor Chapel.
- The first cast-iron bridge in Maesteg, crossing the River Llynfi, sits at the bottom of Treharne Row.
- Maesteg Hospital was built and funded by local miners.
These stories connect us with the town and help us celebrate its character alongside new growth.

Constructive conversations during the event also covered community benefits, grass cutting, and opportunities to improve services.
