We’re really excited to share an update on our plans to bring 35 new affordable homes to Tondu, transforming the long-empty Glan Yr Afon site into a thriving new community space.

We’ve secured funding through Bridgend County Borough Council and the Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant, which helps local authorities and housing associations deliver safe, warm and energy-efficient homes for social rent.

The £8.2 million development will include a mix of 24 one-bedroom flats and 11 two to four-bedroom houses, all available for social rent. Every ground-floor flat will have a level-access bathroom, making the homes more accessible for people with limited mobility.

We’re building the homes to high environmental standards, with a focus on energy efficiency, low carbon emissions and improved air quality. By taking a ‘fabric first’ approach, we’re helping future residents save money by keeping their homes warm and their energy bills low.

This development is part of our ambitious growth strategy, which is all about providing more high-quality, affordable homes in and around Bridgend. Alongside building and acquiring new properties, we’re also investing £172 million in our existing homes over the next decade, while continuing to strengthen our financial position for the future.

As James Griffiths, our Managing Director of Development and Regeneration, puts it:

“Safe, warm and dry homes are fundamental to our wellbeing and sense of security. We’re proud to be delivering 35 high-quality and affordable homes, helping future residents build stable and comfortable lives for themselves in Bridgend.”

And as our Senior Development Officer, Max Lewis, says:

“The brownfield site has been left empty for years, so we’re excited to be breathing new life into the area and supporting the regeneration of Bridgend. Developers Pendragon are also contributing £16,000 in community benefits, so the impact of the project will be felt not just by residents but by local people too.”

We’re expecting the development to be completed by August 2026, and we’ll be sharing more updates as work progresses.
