We have an important role to play in our communities. We’re not just here to manage homes; we want to create safe, happy and attractive neighbourhoods.
What you’ve told us
We know you care deeply about your communities. Last year, through 12 #LoveYourStreet events across Bridgend, we litter-picked, cleared paths, and cut back brambles alongside you. But most importantly, we listened.
You told us exactly what you want your estates to look like, and this feedback has pushed us to reconsider our grounds maintenance contract.
More for your money
At the moment, multiple contractors cut our grass around 13 times a year, with no edging, weed treatment or path clearing.
We think we can do more for the same money by using one contractor across all estates. They’d carry out around 8 or 9 cuts, but with much more work included.
Here’s what we’d like the new contract to cover:
- Cutting all estates with a shared schedule
- Path edging at the start of the season
- Shrub and hedge maintenance
- Weed treatment and removal
- Leaf clearance in autumn and winter
- Compost bins on estates
- Bulb planting (daffodils and tulips)
- Supporting communities with planting projects
- Wildflower meadows and willow planting
- Fly-tipping removal and litter picking (rechargeable)
- Moss removal on hard standings
The aim? Our estates look “cut”, but feel cared for, with a clear cutting schedule!
Community Living Schemes
Our Community Living schemes have told us they need a different approach.
They’ve asked for:
- A minimum of 10 cuts per year
- Summer and winter flowers
- Jet washing of paths and outside areas for safety, following some near misses with older residents
So these will sit slightly differently within the contract.
Did you know?
Bridgend is home to one of the rarest butterflies in the area. And we’d really like to keep it here. Supporting biodiversity is another reason we’re thinking more carefully about how we look after our green spaces!
